Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) focuses on managing and governing identities, access rights, and the identity lifecycle, while Access Management focuses on authentication and controlling access to applications and resources.

IAM helps organizations reduce identity-related security risks by controlling who has access to what. It supports principles such as least privilege, strengthens authentication, improves visibility into access, and helps ensure that access is removed or adjusted when roles change.
