How Cloudworks Academy develops the next generation of IAM consultants
Finding experienced Identity and Access Management (IAM) consultants is one of the biggest challenges in the industry. Through Cloudworks Academy, we develop the next generation of IAM consultants by combining structured learning, hands-on experience, and close collaboration with experienced colleagues.
Why we created Cloudworks Academy
With identity at the core of modern cybersecurity, the demand for Identity and Access Management (IAM) expertise continues to grow. Organizations need specialists who understand not only IAM technologies, but also governance, business processes, and the broader security landscape.
Experienced IAM consultants, however, remain difficult to find.
At Cloudworks, we believe technical skills can be developed. Curiosity, motivation, and the right mindset are much harder to teach. That's why we look beyond certifications and previous IAM experience when recruiting new consultants.
Through Cloudworks Academy, we invest in people with strong analytical skills, a genuine interest in technology, and a desire to continuously learn and develop. Combined with structured learning, mentoring, and real customer projects, this creates a solid foundation for becoming a successful IAM consultant.
Learning through real customer projects
Cloudworks Academy combines structured learning, mentoring, certifications, and hands-on experience. The program is tailored to each consultant's background, experience, and goals, combining vendor training, knowledge sharing, and real customer projects. From an early stage, every new consultant becomes part of customer projects, gradually taking on more responsibility while contributing to real customer outcomes.
Rather than learning through theory alone, new consultants apply their skills in real customer environments while receiving continuous support, feedback, and knowledge sharing from experienced colleagues. This combination of learning and practical experience helps build both technical expertise and confidence.
Guided by experienced colleagues
One of the cornerstones of Cloudworks Academy is learning from experienced colleagues. New consultants are supported by experienced team members who share their expertise, provide guidance, and help them develop throughout their journey.
Every new employee at Cloudworks is paired with an experienced consultant through our buddy program. This provides guidance from day one, helping new employees develop both technical expertise and practical consulting skills through collaboration on real customer projects.
Kristian Nilssen (pictured above) is one example of how this approach works in practice. Through our buddy program, he was paired with an experienced NetIQ consultant and gradually took on increasingly complex customer projects. Today, Kristian serves as one of our Tech Leads for OpenText while continuing to support our customers as a Senior IAM Consultant.
Continuous learning never stops
Learning doesn't stop after onboarding.
By continuously investing in our people, we ensure our consultants stay up to date with new technologies, evolving security challenges, and the changing needs of our customers.
This continuous investment in learning enables us to build stronger teams, share knowledge across projects, and deliver better outcomes for our customers.
