Building the foundation for automation

The project started with an IAM assessment to evaluate how automated user provisioning for employees and external partners could improve efficiency, standardize access management, and reduce administrative effort.

A key part of the assessment was understanding Höegh Autoliners' organizational structure and business processes. This included mapping user profiles, roles and responsibilities, and segregation of duties to establish a scalable foundation for identity and access management.

No two organizations are the same. Defining the right role model is therefore essential. Too few roles can result in excessive access, while too many roles become difficult to manage. Finding the right balance was a key objective of the assessment.

Strengthening governance

An important objective was to improve governance by providing clear answers to two fundamental questions:

- Who has access to what?
- Who approves access?

Cloudworks recommended governance processes that delegated approval workflows for access requests to department managers and external partners where appropriate. This increased accountability, improved visibility into access decisions, and strengthened security across the organization.

The assessment also identified the processes and technologies required to support this governance model in a future implementation.

Technology assessment

Once the governance model and automation opportunities had been defined, the next step was to evaluate the technical landscape.

The assessment analyzed the organization's most important applications to determine integration possibilities, implementation complexity, and which systems should be included in the future IAM program.

This provided Höegh Autoliners with realistic objectives for the next phase of the project. The final report established a solid foundation for future procurement decisions and the implementation of a modern Identity and Access Management solution.
